In the Shed / Type of plastic on the fairings
« on: October 14, 2017, 11:40:05 pm »
Hi guys. I have looked all over my VF1000F fairings (both sets) to try and find the indicator for the type of plastic they are made of in prep for some welding but can't find any signs. Can anyone tell me the type of plastic they are so I can order the correct welding rods?

In the Shed / Re: Paint

Thanks Philjo. Its not often we go below 15C where I live except for night in winter. Biggest issue is painting when it is 25-35C due to the paint drying too quickly.

For those that have painted their own bikes, what paint types have you used? The old car method was acrylic base and acrylic clear but new methods seem to be to use a 2 pac clear over whatever base coat. Is this what people have done? If so, what type of 2 pac clear given the toxicity of this product? I believe there is now a low danger 2 pac clear to use

In the Shed / Case jointing

Hi guys. I know Hondabond is the promoted sealant for case jointing when rebuilding these motors however it apppears to be a messy process, particularly in the warmer climates like we experience down under.
Is there any reason I can't use Loctite Master Gasket instead as it is designed for jointing of flange type surfaces? It is a much simpler sealant to use and negates the gumming risk in oil and water passages that the 3 bond type products present.

In the Shed / VF1000f connecting rod bearings, again!
« on: September 02, 2017, 03:10:24 am »
Hey guys,
I managed to order both mains and connecting rod bearings for my 84 VF1000f a few months ago. However, on doing an inventory last night I noticed that I was sent 13225MB4003 connecting rod bearings in lieu of the 13225MJ4010 B (green) bearings I ordered. Whilst I am yet to hear back from CMS, my initial searches identified these as VF1100C bearings. Of note, though, the VF1100C parts breakdown on Partzilla appears to offer both the MB4 and MJ4 bearings as compatible items.
Can anyone enlighten me here? If they are compatible, maybe this becomes another option for VF1000 bearing acquisition.

Owners Lounge / Front caliber colour

Hey guys, what colour are the brake callipers on my 84 VF1000F supposed to be. The aint scheme is the red, white and black

Cheers Bif. I was thinking of cutting replacing the tube in toto but the washer idea sounds like a great option. I'm not a great rust welder either. I think it will be a bit like stitching car panel: tack by tack.

Question then begs, why are those two pipes there? I have a leak from the weld on one of the pipes and was just considering replacing it. Are they a structural item to keep the collector shape?

Thats great Pete but what about all of those valuable photos linked through Photobucket? There are so many fantastic threads on this site and others where you can no longer see the photos. Yes, I too am P'd off

Owners Lounge / photo bucket problems

Hi guys,
It appears that Photobucket is clawing for money and many posted images (I assume they are in photo bucket) appear as dial images like the one attached. I am not prepared to pay $399/year to see such images. Is there any way we can all just post images another way. I normally just post a reduced size image but does that cause problems

VF1000 / VF1000f cam caps
« on: July 28, 2017, 12:00:16 pm »
What is the difference between these two camshaft caps. I have 3 motors with various issues and want at least one good one from the 3. Is there a difference between the caps? All I can see is the additional moulding next to the outer mounting bolt.

VF1000 / Cylinder o-rings
« on: June 13, 2017, 12:40:27 am »
Hey guys, I noticed that a few of you had removed your cylinder liners from the block. Did anyone happen to find a source of the rings? I have three blocks with various quality liners. It would be good to put all of the good liners in 2 of the blocks rather than have to attempt the expensive rebore process.
I did remove two of my worst liners from one block. Whilst both of the upper brings look like normal rubber, one of the lower ones was orange but the other was black. I know there was some contention over piton (?) brings but the black one I found suggests just normal brings.
I would appreciate any suggestions on where to get them and what to do
